Maverick Investigative Services has offered state-of-the-art Polygraph services to our clients since our doors first opened. But what exactly IS a Polygraph and when might someone need to hire a professional to conduct one? Today, we're answering some of the most commonly asked questions, while separating myth from fact, with "The Truth Behind Polygraphs."

WHAT IS A POLYGRAPH?
A Polygraph is a scientific instrument used to measure various types of physiological data such as: heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and respiration, and skin perspiration/conductivity.
HOW DOES A POLYGRAPH WORK?
Like any instrument, a Polygraph works best when in the hands of a trained and reputable professional, also know as, a Polygrapher or Polygraph Examiner. A Polygraph is divided into two parts, the test and the analysis of the test results. The job of the Polygrapher, or person conducting the investigation, is to essentially get a baseline of the person receiving the polygraphs vitals by asking a series of questions that shouldn't trigger any emotional responses, e.g., "What is your full name? Date of birth? Color of your house, etc." After a baseline is established, the Polygrapher will ask the interviewee more questions, slowly starting to increase the level of emotional distress that the answers could elicit until the questioning is over. The results are then analyzed by the polygraph examiner (or in some cases, a third party) for inconsistencies or potential deception, based on the physiological data recorded during the interview.
OUR EQUIPMENT:
Maverick Investigative Services uses Lafayette Systems "LX-6 Data Acquisition System," for all of our psychophysiological detection of deception exams. The Lafayette LX Series is one of the most widely trusted instruments in the field of "Credibility Assessment" and relied on by the majority of local and state law enforcement and government agencies. So our clients can be sure you're getting the best possible results.
WHAT TYPE OF USE CASES DO POLYGRAPHS HAVE IN TODAYS WORLD?
Polygraphs can be essential for various types of investigations offered at Maverick Investigative Services, including: criminal theft, fraud, arson, sexual assault, homicide, infidelity and more. Most common, is our, "Employment Background Exams" required by many local and state law enforcement agencies.
COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS/MYTHS ABOUT POLYGRAPHS.
Polygraphs have been the subject of many misconceptions since their invention in 1921. The most egregious being, falsely, referred to and portrayed in media by many as a "Lie-Detector." Unfortunately, there is no instrument capable of differentiating between whats inherently "true" or "False." Not yet, anyway. In the professional world, polygraph examiners and investigators more accurately refer to them as "Credibility Assessors."
HOW LONG DOES A POLYGRAPH TAKE?
Polygraph services can be completed in just a few hours, however the actual "chart-time" or part of the process where we're actually collecting chart data, is closer to only 30 minutes.
Polygraph services are done in private, one-on-one sessions with our in-house Polygraph examination expert, James C. Decker (Retired NH State Police, Commander of Polygraph Unit, Certified Polygraph Examiner/Quality Control and Senior Fraud Investigator) at our office located at 26 Ermer Rd Suite 2 Salem, NH. 03079
